The Simple Truth I Needed To Hear From Giddy Yo’s CEO & Owner, Bridgitte Longshore.

“You have to have faith in the right things first of all, and then you just need to chill out.”

If you’re anything like me, you likely think of Giddy Yo products as being “superfood” or health food goodies that are unique, trustworthy, and downright real.

Is it their fabulous upscale - yet still ‘earthy’ and fun - branding, marketing, packaging? Or perhaps the fact that their ingredients are always organic or wild crafted, fairly traded AND of the heirloom variety?

Nope, there has to be something a little “extra” that makes them resonate so powerfully with me - as a mildly manic health nut and longevity enthusiast.

I’m excited to share that I now know the answer. The Giddy Yo “secret sauce”.

Allow me to present to you, Bridgitte Longshore, the CEO/Founder/100% owner of this miracle business. I’m going to go right ahead and say it: she’s the inspirational woman behind why this little raw chocolate-making business is quickly becoming a household name.

When we met, Bridgitte was delightfully friendly, open, and transparent - providing clearly honest answers to all questions about her products that I threw her way. While everything she said was interesting and is no doubt worth sharing - I’m not going to regurgitate our interview in what follows.

Instead, I’m going to get straight to the point. The transformational message she presented so plainly, that rung so true I could feel it radiating throughout my entire being. I needed to hear it, and it’s likely you do too - if not today, maybe later in life, or perhaps it’s been a long time coming.

So, what is this revolutionary message that makes Bridgitte such a force to be reckoned with?

Love yourself - wherever you’re at.

Allow me to explain utilizing a scenario she described…

“Often times we have people that come to the trade shows we’re a part of, and they’re very stressed.”

“They say, ‘Okay, so I eat this, and I eat this, etc. etc.’”

Rather than play nutritional godsend or investigative reporter, Bridgitte shares some solid advice:

“Then I’m like okay, let’s step back from things for a second. I think what would help you - being as you clearly have a beautiful diet, and that you already eat so clean - is for you to stop stressing, because you’ve taken all of that beautiful food, and you’ve just acidified everything.”

She isn’t afraid to speak the truth: “Stress kills.”

Bridgitte speaks so beautifully on the key to thriving - sharing that it starts with ridding yourself of stress, and instead finding real ways to cope with life.

“You can eat fast food and you can thrive - I’m not encouraging that, but it’s possible.”

What a refreshing message in this “wellness world” of ‘eat-this-not-that’, ‘do-this-but-never-that’, ‘swap-this-and supplement-with-that’.

Maybe it’s time we all started to love where we’re at. To remind ourselves that doing our best is all that matters, and reason enough to be proud of ourselves.

“On one hand it can be super easy, on the other, it’s challenging because we have so many options available to us. The key is: love yourself wherever you’re at. Aim to be better today than you were yesterday. And if that means fast food 3 times today and 2 times tomorrow - hallelujah!”

I opened up to Bridgitte about my own struggles with food, perfection, and the endless amounts of information I need to ‘de-code’ in order to share intelligently with my friends, family, and now “followers” of my blog. Many of whom are starting to look up to me for the “answers”. While this is my passion - there are times when I feel unsure.

[Sidenote: Sometimes I eat 2 bananas in one day. #CallTheCarbPolice].

Bridgitte offered insightful words of mentorship:

“Our job is to meet people where they’re at, and to have compassion.”

“I’m not a doctor, but I do know stress kills, and I do know that it’s not complicated - at least it doesn’t have to be.”

“People come to me wanting to know some particular diet rules and restrictions and ‘secrets’, but in reality it’s as simple as: It’s green, it’s clean - and at the end of the day, we all know we should eat more green.”

I could try and tell you the ‘answers’ but first off: I don’t know your digestion - so who am I guess what you’ll best thrive on?”

It’s clear that the only thing Bridgitte ‘preaches’, is exactly the direction I’d like to take with Mindfully Edible, and that’s the encouragement for you to search for YOUR answer.

Empower yourself to find it, I promise it’s there. Life has this magical way of providing you with all the information you need. You just need to give yourself the time and space to see it.

Shifting now towards Giddy Yo products; it was refreshing to hear that Bridgitte no longer claims that her products are “the best”.

“Some people may love my chocolate and it’s the ‘best ever’ for them, or it’s not and they don’t even like it. That doesn’t matter - what matters to me is what I am doing. For us, that’s food safety. The number one thing - especially with cacao and coffee, and other naturally high mold and fungus foods, is food safety. It’s not only important where you get your materials from, but equally important are the processes of making the chocolate. How you sanitize the machines, how you test the ingredients, etc. THAT’S what we need to talk about. I will gladly show people my Certificates of Analysis. It’s essential to keep your numbers [of bacteria/molds/fungus/mycotoxins] as low as possible. We strive to always do the very best we can do. If there’s ever any issues - I send it straight back [to the supplier], no questions, I won’t even attempt to use it."

As someone who’s still scarred by Dave Asprey’s talk on mold in Head Strong, I took great comfort in learning that Giddy Yo’s chocolate can be indulged in fearlessly, but respectfully as long as it truly works for you (and this can change over time/your body’s state etc.).

Speaking of which, turns out I’m not the only one who’s gone through (or, admittedly, is still going through) crazy health obsessions...

Bridgitte jokes that she’s jumped on specific nutrition bandwagons in the past. ‘Read the book’ and ‘bought the t-shirt’, so to speak - only to later realize, hmmm, maybe this isn’t the be-all-end-all.

We laughed as this is something I’m horribly guilty of.

For example...

  • Took David Wolfe’s nutrition course: EVERYONE JUST EAT PLANTS AND SUPERFOODS!

  • Read The Obesity Code by Dr. Jason Fung and led a Fasting Retreat with Megan Ramos: WE ALL EAT WAY TOO OFTEN - LET’S FAST!

  • Read Head Strong by Dave Asprey: BUTTER COFFEE FOR EVERYONE!


Look, I’m not saying any of the above is ‘right’ or ‘wrong’, and I still to this day admire and respect each of the thought-leaders mentioned, but it’s important to remember that their messages and protocol have their place. Maybe it’s for a person with Type 2 diabetes who is desperate for an alternative to bariatric surgery, a cancer patient who needs to boost their body’s natural detoxification processes and speed healing for a chance at recovery, or a highly sensitive and inflamed individual with a long history of poor dietary choices and problematic living conditions.

But guess what? That’s not me, at least not right now.

Speaking to Bridgitte was a reminder: why inflict stress on your body - trying to assess if you should or shouldn’t eat grains, or avidly avoid vs. fuel up on ‘controversial’ types of saturated fats? Or maybe you stress about how and when to eat - small meals throughout the day or OMAD (“One Meal A Day”)?

Truth is, the answer lies within yourself. You just have to listen - to tune into your body and hear and see what it’s telling you. Your nutritional roadmap to discovering the totally happy THRIVING you, is for you to figure out.

Don’t give away your power to something or someone else - a book, an influencer, a diet fad.

It’s not the “calculated” answer, that people are anxiously searching for, as Bridgitte mentions -  but it’s the truth. While it can be challenging, she lovingly suggests that it can also be incredibly simple.

I went into this Giddy Yo media interview excited to meet the badass entrepreneur behind the stellar products that are pantry staples in my kitchen - maca powder, chaga and reishi tinctures, golden berries, and of course: chocolate. What I came out with, though, was a much needed reminder to love exactly where I’m at (+ a total girl crush on Bridgitte Longshore).

Moreover, I now have an even deeper appreciation for Giddy Yo.

I am so impressed with every last detail of how they source, process, and market the beautiful food items they sell. It’s great to add another company to my list of trustworthy brands when shopping, and moreover - another thought-leader I look forward to learning from and following in her continued success.
