The Top-Rated Adaptogens of My Favourite Wellness Stars
Being an entrepreneur can be hard. Luckily, there’s adaptogenic herbs.
For those of you unfamiliar with these magical plants, they are essentially ingredients that help to manage our stress-levels by restoring equilibrium in our body - most notably through helping to regulate our endocrine (hormone) system.
Think: adaptogens ADAPT to our stressors.
Thus, it’s no surprise that some of the most successful (and famous!) wellpreneurs are avid fans and devoted consumers of these very special plants!
I reached out to each of my favourite wellness boss babes to get THEIR fave adaptogen, and here’s what they shared…
Sarah Britton, My New Roots
“My fave adaptogen is liquorice! I make an infusion with the whole root (chopped up), store it in the fridge, and add it to everything from breakfast porridge, to smoothies, as well as hot and cold tea.
Liquorice balances hormones, helps the body adapt to stress, supports the immune response, and aids learning and memory - all things I certainly need! It also tastes AMAZING, unlike a lot of other adaptogenic herbs out there ;) I use it instead of sweetener!”
Marni Wasserman, The Ultimate Health Podcast
“My favourite these days is Cordyceps (a medicinal mushroom). This adaptogen is incredible for reducing inflammation, supporting the immune system and boosting energy.
Ever since I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, cordyceps has been a saviour to help lower my antibodies. The best time to have it is first thing in the morning, before a workout or midday especially when you need a surge of natural energy.
My favourite way to enjoy it is in a morning elixir along with coconut butter, carob powder, coconut milk, dandy blend and cinnamon.”
Julie Clark, Province Apothecary
“My favourite is a product called: Deep Immune boost from Viriditas.
John Redden is an amazing herbalist that makes all of his own tinctures and this particular one has Chaga and Reishi and so many other amazing adaptogens.
He only sells it to patients, and has around 100 tincture blends that are all amazing and full of adaptogens.”
Julie Daniluk, HOT DETOX
“Ashwagandha! My interest in Ashwagandha was first peaked when researching Meals That Heal Inflammation. A 2008 study showed that when combined with GLS (glucosamine sulphate) ashwagandha could protect against inflammation and cartilage damage associated with osteoarthritis.
The root of ashwagandha contains flavonoids that are anti-inflammatory, anti-tumour, anti-stress, antioxidant, mind-boosting, and immune-enhancing.”
Joy McCarthy, Joyous Health
“My favourite adaptogen is definitely maca.
It has been around for thousands of years because of its ability to help the body adapt better to stress. When I take it regularly I find that it enhances my mood and energy, without any negative side effects that similar energy-boosters like coffee have. Research remains unclear as to how exactly it does it this, but it could be from the blood sugar balancing effect of maca. It is super rich in antioxidants and may even boost levels of glutathione which is super important for healthy detoxification of the liver.”
Hopefully the above inspires you to incorporate one or more of these truly SUPER-herbs into your wellness regime. Feel free to try one or more - just be sure to start low and go slow.
Remember that, just like with everything and anything, intention is key - what are you hoping to achieve from consuming the plant? Consume adaptogens (just like any other foods) mindfully and consciously - savouring their benefits as part of your holistic wellness lifestyle (not as a “hack” to fight against stress or anxiety).
